AD-38: Rep. Buck McKeon Caught Covering His Bases for Himself and California Assembly Candidate Wife Patricia McKeon

Share

Speaker Boehner, Patricia McKeon and Rep. Buck McKeon

As I said in a previous post, this California Assembly race is starting to heat up. The latest is the partial release of a memo by Roll Call that outlines Rep. Buck McKeon’s strategy in deflecting attention away from a revelation of his dealings with Countrywide Financial. The link to the Roll Call Story is here.

When House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) became ensnared by the Countrywide mortgage scandal last month, his senior staff came together for a strategy session to decide how to throw colleagues, potential challengers and former employees under the bus.

McKeon is one of four Members referred to the House Ethics Committee to discern whether Countrywide provided preferential treatment to influential lawmakers through an exclusive loan program.

McKeon’s communications director drafted a memo — “a recap of current strategy call” — and addressed it to Chief of Staff Bob Cochran, Deputy Chief of Staff Bob Haueter and political consultant Tony Marsh.

The memo included a reference to a California state Assembly race that pits a former McKeon staffer, Scott Wilk, against McKeon’s wife, Patricia. Wilk previously worked as McKeon’s press secretary and later his district director.

According to the memo, McKeon’s strategy should include “thorough background checks into the relationships between Wilk, [Wilk’s political consultant, Jason Cable] Roe, and their recent shady political connections.”

When asked for comment, Wilk replied: “Well, you [have] got to remember this Assembly seat and his new Congressional seat are all in the same area. … Mr. McKeon has been catching some grief from the right.”

OK, so Buck McKeon is a typical POL who doesn’t care who he throws under the bus, as long as his ass is covered and his wife wins a California Assembly seat – funded by Buck’s defense contractor buddies.

Pretty typical POL stuff, right?

Well, this afternoon, Patricia McKeon’s opponent’s (Scott Wilk) wife got into the FLAP.

You see, Vanessa Wilk has sent Rep. Buck McKeon a letter, asking him to apologize about saying all of those nasty things about her husband, Scott.

Here is the letter:

McKeon Letter 02072012

What is interesting is that Congressman Buck McKeon has been working or can you say conspiring to defame his wife’s political opponents. Hope you weren’t spending government time on this endeavor, Buck?

OK, maybe this is understandable in the world of hardball politics( not too ethical, mind you), except Buck himself is up for re-election this year and now has his own scandal with Countrywide on his hands. So, divert that attention, Buck to save your own ass.

Somehow I think there will be more dirty tricks in this race, than either side will want or will care to admit.

Oh yeah, Vanessa, I doubt a POL like Buck will return you hard-earned contributions…

Really???!!!  Please find ONE location where Patricia’s campaign has said one single thing negative about Scott, or has in anyway disparaged his reputation such as some of those working in his campaign have to Patricia.

Come on, don’t be hood winked into believing these accusations. Search for blogs, slanders or other mud slinging by Patricia McKeon and if you find some against Wilk or any others in the Assembly campaign, please let us know.  That should keep you busy for a long time, since there is NONE!  However, reverse the search and well you will find quite a bit.  What does that say?!

I did read both Vanessa’s letter and the Roll Call – in there I saw nothing that I would not have done if someone put up a site using my name and posed as a legitimate site for my campaign – only to be redirected to a mudslinging site.  If you have something to day negative do it honestly not with intentional deceit.  I have read NOTHING that Patricia has said or done that was a direct personal attack on Scott OR his campaign.  Believe what you want and let Vanessa cry Wolf, but there was nothing done or said which wasn’t what anyone would have done if someone was trying to create a site slandering ones name….who said it was Scott doing that anyway..it was the site that was in question not Scott…Vanessa drew that conclusion on her own, where did that come from?!

I’m sorry, did someone say that the negatives about Scott were written?? Movers and shakers all over town are whispering about the arm-twisting and negative campaigning they are having to endure by the McKeon’s and their staff. Calls directly from the Congressman himself. Really?? How many people who have endured it do we have to hear it from before we can believe it’s real?? Why is it that most of the regular big-dollar local contributors have not contributed to ANY Assembly campaign?? Veiled threats from the McKeon camp. You definitely don’t want to cross the Congressman.

Guest: regarding the deceitful site you mentioned — there was nothing slanderous on that site. Slander is a false statement. Now the site did get sarcastic in some of the posts, but the author clearly stated what was opinion vs. what was fact, and provided backup links to the FEC reports to corroborate the assertion. How much more factual can you get? That’s not mudslinging, slander, or deceit. That’s exposing the Emperor!

Umm, I think that says that people universally think Patricia running is a bad idea. So if that is what you are trying to say then, I agree 100%

It would also be fair to note that these are all blogs, newspapers, and independent websites. I think most people would find it hard to believe that somehow Wilk has sway over all of the internet. He is after all, not Al Gore.

Ha! There was no misdirection on the really patricia site. And frankly from the start that blog had title of “PAtricia McKeon for Assembly? Really Patricia?” so how is that misleading…

Here is an idea, maybe Patricia McKeon should actually get her own website, you know one that doesn’t put you on a go daddy landing page. Or maybe if she just updated her Facebook more then once a month. Hell maybe she could even try going out and talking to people. All just some things she could do, none of which she has.

Maybe if she didn’t piss off the entire community by running in the first place people wouldn’t be saying all the stuff (honest, truthful stuff it should be noted) they are saying about her.

Guest: Of course you don’t see where Patricia has been quoted as saying negative things about Scott. That isn’t how the McKeon’s or the Haueter’s roll. They don’t utilize social media, because then there is a record. No, their methods are much more sinister. They work behind the scenes, through intimidation, threats, and backstabbing to get what they want. Trust me, I know. I experienced it firsthand, when my own family came under attack by Buck and his henchman, Bob, just for criticizing the Congressman in a public forum. The only way to combat that, as we found out, was to fight back publicly, so that the voters of SCV know how Buck uses the power that his position carries. Buck thinks he owns this valley. Well, not anymore. Not if those who have the guts to stand up against him have anything to say about it. We may have been just an annoying gnat in his face a year ago, but that irritating buzz isn’t so quiet anymore. In fact, it is beginning to become a dull roar, and it’ll keep growing because we have the truth on our side.
