AD-66: Former California Governor George Deukmejian Endorses Nathan Mintz

A good pick-up for Torrance Republican Engineer Nathan Mintz.

Former Gov. George Deukmejian on Wednesday endorsed aerospace engineer Nathan Mintz for a newly drawn state Assembly seat.  The  Mintz campaign announced the former GOP governor’s backing one day after Republican businessman Craig Huey jumped into the race for the South Bay based- 66th District seat.

Mintz will face off with businessman Craig Huey and Democrat school board member Al Muratsuchi.

  1. I interviewed the former governor.  He based his endorsement solely on the advice of Steve Kinney, Mintz’ pollster.

    Deukmejian believes that gay Republicans, Democrats and Decline to State voters will get Mintz past the “top two” primary and victory in November.

    We had an actual gay Republican run for congress in a far less conservative district earlier this year, Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin.  

    He got less than 10% of the vote.

    Craig Huey gets 35% of the vote just for being the conservative candidate.  Mintz will never make it past the primary.
