AD-48: Baldwin Park Councilwoman Calls for Roger Hernandez Resignation

Oh Politics!

California Assemblyman Roger Hernandez is in trouble with allegations of domestic abuse and political rivals are there with the knife to stick it in and twist.

With two local councilwomen standing by her side, Baldwin Park councilwoman Marlen Garcia on Wednesday publicly demanded that Assemblyman Roger Hernandez, D-West Covina, resign from his post following allegations of domestic abuse revealed Monday.

Hernandez responded hours later that the allegations are politically motivated, pointing out that the Wednesday press conference was organized by his Republican opponent in the race for the 48th Assembly district.

During the press conference in front of Hernandez’s district office, Garcia said she is a former victim of domestic violence who was nearly killed by her abuser. She said she was standing up for others without a voice during National Domestic Abuse Awareness Month.

“You are not worthy to represent the good and hardworking people of this district,” Garcia said of Hernandez as she stood next to El Monte Councilwoman Victoria Martinez and Glendora Councilwoman Judy Nelson.

“You have shamed us to no end and have been an embarrassment to your constituents,” continued Garcia, who has said she used to be Hernandez’s friend and political supporter.

Hernandez, a former West Covina city councilman, responded that the pronoucements are “dirty” politics at work.

Roger Hernandez stands for re-election next Tuesday. If he loses to Republican Joe Gardner in this very Democratic district, the campaign to replace Gardner will begin.

Look to those standing in the video above to soon launch a campaign to replace Gardner.

If Hernandez wins, then he will be termed out soon, or challenged in a top two election in about 18 months.

Of course, the allegations could be proven to be bogus.

Stay tuned…..
